When it comes to making a difference in the world you might be feeling like there is so much going on you aren’t sure where to start. And it’s difficult to tackle more than one ‘cause’ at a time. Luckily with the age of the internet, we can make an impact from our living rooms if we need to. Although it is better to get out there and beat the streets when the need arises, or when you are very passionate about something. Here are a few places you can start to make a difference in the comfort of your living room, couch, and you can even use your mobile phone in most cases.

Shop ‘Til You Drop

We are all partial to a bit of an online splurge from time to time. But your dollars could be making a more significant difference if you spend them in the right places. If you are partial to a spot of shopping on Amazon, then look into installing Amazon Smile. Everything you spend there will be 0.5% of your purchase going to whatever cause you have chosen. If you’re going to be purchasing online, then why not do some good at the same time.

Buying “awareness branded items” usually means a considerable portion of the items sale price will go right to the charity the product is associated with. Most notably of late Product(RED) from many Apple products goes towards fighting AIDS in Africa.

Socially Loud

When you see your friends making and selling goods or services - buy them. You’re not supporting a big global conglomerate, you’re helping someone on a grassroots level. If you can’t afford to buy anything start sharing their efforts.

Petitions spread like wildfire and for the sake of around 15 seconds you can add your name and details to a petition for something that you feel will make a difference with certain issues. Joining groups on Facebook is a great way to connect with other people and makes sure you are up to date with things like rallies and important dates for that cause.

Politically Aware

Some people say that politics doesn’t affect them.  In the last few years, there has been a huge shakeup in the political stakes, and it is doubtful you or someone you love hasn’t been impacted by things like the election of a new president or BREXIT. While no one is suggesting that you need to be able to distinguish between the intricate ins and outs of each political party, you should understand the concepts surrounding issues like voter reform, budget deficit, the electorate, and the process of making laws. The more knowledge you have on a subject, the more of an impact you can have.

Still Lost?

Well, it is time to think about what matters to you. Is it turtles swimming through plastic bags, eating them and dying? Perhaps it’s the millions of children who die every day from preventable diseases. Maybe it’s closer to home, and you’re seeing a lot of smaller independent retailers closing. Whatever it is that lights your fire, sit down and google ways you can make an impact.
