In their release eight days ago, the Panama Papers have linked 140 politicians from more than 50 companies to secret offshore accounts. So far, the revelations have ended the political career of the prime minister of Iceland,  and uncovered numerous new scandals in dozens of other countries.

These revelations come at inconvenient times in countries like Brazil, where President Dilma Rousseff was already facing impeachment charges for corruption, reports Tara Golshan.  In other countries, the documents show just how vast the gulf between politicians’ personal financial practices and their public speeches.

The International Consortium of Journalists has done a stellar job of giving us an idea of the depth and the breadth of international corruption and tax evasion by the world’s political elite. Thank you to all the journalists who took part for their hard work, patience and dedication to getting the truth out. -Danielle Bizzarro
