“Living in poverty,”  journalist Stephanie Land says, “is a daily struggle for basic needs. The stress is all-consuming.” Only the generosity and support of family and a friends kept her and her two children out of shelters after she graduated from college. After earning a bachelor’s degree, Land was $60,000 in debt, with two small children and very little money left to spend on rent and food. She felt like a complete failure. And she’s one of the luckier ones. Here is her story.
